On Tuesday 24th October, two members of the Lagan College Public Speaking group attended the Edgar Graham Memorial Public Speaking event – an annual competition held in the Senate Chamber of Stormont. Throughout the course of the evening twenty-eight senior student speakers, from schools across Northern Ireland, took to the lectern to present their 5-minute speeches to an audience which featured a panel of ex-politicians and special guests.
Louie Townsley’s speech on ‘Mental Health Needs to be Given the Same Priority as Physical Health’ was awarded an impressive second place. Jake Bradley’s speech on ‘Education is the Backbone of Society…but it Needs to Change’ was awarded an impressive highly commended (fourth place).
Both boys did a fantastic job and Lagan College are so proud of their efforts! If you think you have what it takes to be a future public speaker - come chat to Mrs Smyth, in F18, on Wednesdays after-school.
