On Monday 15th January 2024, our Year 13 students travelled to Magilligan Field Centre for an overnight fieldwork residential.
The purpose of their visit was to conduct a fieldwork investigation into the vegetation succession of the Umbra nature reserve, which is essential for our AS level Unit 3. It was a very cold but bright day on the beach and they enjoyed learning about the dune ecosystem. They worked in groups using their equipment to collect data on the vegetation, soil and microclimate. Back at the lab that evening, they analysed their samples and started to interpret our results. In the evening, they enjoyed time in the recreation room playing pool, table tennis and board games and enjoyed some birthday cake. Thanks to Mrs Major for organising the trip and all the staff at Magilligan who gave us such a warm welcome. A huge thank you to Translink for going that extra mile for us on our journey.
