On Friday 20th October we were delighted to be the first school to take our Year 11-13 female ICT and Computing students on an exciting trip to the ASOS Tech Hub in Belfast. The trip was part of our efforts to encourage more female students to pursue STEM related subjects and career paths.
While ASOS is widely recognised as a fashion brand they are equally passionate about their ‘tech’ career opportunities and societal responsibility to encourage more female students into these roles. The students got the chance to chat with Business Analysts, AI & Data Scientists and Software, Data and Android Engineers, finding out about what their job entails, their pathways into their career and the role that technology plays both overtly and behind the scenes.
We have received tremendous feedback and the girls really enjoyed experiencing such a modern office environment that incorporates a gym, quiet rooms, massage pods and even the opportunity to bring your dog to work. The pizza kindly provided by ASOS was also a high point!
The girls were truly inspired and hopefully will continue on a STEM pathway. We are indebted to ASOS for the opportunity and look forward to future cooperation to help address the imbalance of female students in this sector. Many thanks to Mr Graham, Miss Beers and Mrs O’Hagan for accompanying the students.
