The BTEC Travel and Tourism courses explore the Travel Industry both in the UK and Ireland and across Europe and the rest of the World.

Key Stage 4

BTEC First Award in Travel and Tourism

BTEC Travel and Tourism First Award aims to inspire and enthuse students to consider a career in the travel and tourism sector.  Students have the opportunity to gain a broad knowledge and understanding of, and develop skills in, the travel and tourism sector which includes not just travel agencies, but visitor attractions, the hospitality sector, airlines, tour guiding and tourist information centres.

Year 11

  • Unit 1: ‘The UK Travel and Tourism Sector’ – introduces the main types of tourism in the UK and the different component industries that make up the UK travel and tourism sector. It is externally assessed through an EXAM.
  • Unit 2: ‘UK Travel and Tourism Destinations’ – requires students to investigate the different types of UK destinations and customer types. This unit is internally assessed via COURSEWORK.

Year 12

  • Unit 3: The Travel and Tourism Customer Experience – takes a close look at how good and bad customer service affects the success of travel and tourism businesses. This Unit is internally assessed through COURSEWORK
  • Unit 4: International Travel and Tourism Destinations – this is where you get to act like a travel agent, researching European and Worldwide holiday destinations and planning holidays for different types of customers.

Post 16 Study

BTEC Level 3 in Travel and Tourism

Through Years 13 and 14 there are 4 units of work.

There are 3 mandatory units that form the fundamental knowledge and understanding of the travel and tourism sector.

  • Unit 1: The World of Travel and Tourism
  • Unit 2: Global Destinations
  • Unit 3: The Principles of Marketing in Travel and Tourism

There are 2 optional units but only one is studied. They are:

  • Visitor Attractions
  • Events, Conferences and Exhibitions
