We provide students with opportunities to gain a wider knowledge and understanding of, and develop skills in, the public service sector. Undertaking a BTEC Public Services course can help you take your first steps towards a career supporting the public. Our sole aim is to provide a first-class education provision, to all students, enabling the creation of the very best public servants of the next generation.

Key Stage 4

BTEC Level 2 First Award in Public Services

This course provides learners with the opportunity to learn about the work involved in a wide range of public services. Learners will also have the opportunity to undertake practical activities that provide them with a first hand opportunity to develop key skills that will be of value in any future workplace e.g. team work, communication skills, problem solving, effective timekeeping and self-reliance.

The BTEC Level 2 First Award in Public Services also supports progression into a more specialised Level 3 vocational or academic course, or alternatively into an apprenticeship. This course is suitable for anyone with an interest in a career in the public services including, but not limited to, the police service, fire service, ambulance service, National Health Service, social services, prison service, armed forces etc. It explores the different types of public services, what each job actually involves, and the skills and personal qualities needed. The public services sector is a huge area of employment. It comprises hundreds of organisations and there are thousands of exciting job roles available within these organisations.

Post 16 Study

BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Uniformed Protective Services

Studying a BTEC Level 3 in Uniformed Protective Services course will provide you with opportunities to engage in real-life preparation for uniformed service careers such as, the fire service, ambulance service and armed services. This qualification aims to equip learners with the knowledge and understanding necessary to apply for a range of entry-level roles within the uniformed protective services sector, whilst also offering exciting opportunities to develop some of the practical skills these roles require.

The BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate provides progression into a range of sector-related courses in higher education, as well as those linked to relevant occupational areas, such as criminology and policing. When combined with other qualifications in a two-year study programme, such as A Levels or another BTEC National qualification, learners can progress to higher education in a range of disciplines.
