Our School Facilities

In September 1981, Lagan College, Northern Ireland’s first integrated, all ability post primary school was opened. We opened our doors in the now legendary hall at Ardnavally, in South Belfast adjacent to the River Lagan.

As the school intake grew, accommodation was sought in Castlereagh hillside before a permanent home for the college was eventually found at Lisnabreeny, thanks to the hospitality of the National Trust. In 1991, the Education Minister Brian Mawhinney, opened our Technology and main Breeney building.

In 2003, Lagan College sought to be considered for a new build programme which culminated in new school accommodation being finally realised on 17th June 2013.

Our state of the art facilities, fit for the 21st century, comprise of a range of exciting sports facilities, including a fully equipped fitness suite, full sized indoor basketball court, grass playing field, synthetic hockey pitch, 5 tennis courts and a long jump facility.

The students’ learning potential was also enhanced by signature spaces that boast of a new library, with panoramic views of the countryside, an internet café, 2 Sixth Form study centres, a Sixth Form Common room, 11 E- learning suites, a new music building comprising of a recording studio, and 2 dance/ drama suites – not forgetting our pond!

The build programme also enabled the college to fully refurbish our existing Technology and Breeney main buildings as well as restore Lisnabreeny House to its former glory.

Our school building now forms a complete circle, inclusive of all and providing a warm, safe and pleasant learning environment for students and staff. At the heart of our school is the social heart, inclusive of the stunning library and Chaplaincy Centre led by our joint Chaplains representing the two major faith traditions in Northern Ireland

The vision of the founding parents and students has finally been realised with a permanent Lagan College for many generations to come. Today, Lagan College is a beacon of hope to others, showcasing that the integration of young people does work and all children can play, learn and grow up together under one roof.

Watch out for the opening of our extended Chaplaincy and Wellbeing Centre coming soon in 2023!
