Y13 Work Experience Evaluation

Congratulations to all of our Y13 students who completed their work placements before half term. We hope you enjoyed your week in the world of work, and have come back to your studies with a new prpose and enthusiasm.

Please take a few minutes to fill out an evaluation of your time with your host employer – the link has been emailed to your school email address.  Please be honest and fill it out as fully as possible to help us get the best out of work experience for future years.

The form for Y11 Work Placement is now open for you to enter your details. You can access it through the link in an email you received from Mrs Bingham on Monday 6th Feb, or by clicking on the link below.

UU Launch NEW Undergraduate Study Website

The University of Ulster “Four Campuses – One University” have launched a new Undergraduate Study Website. The website boasts a fantastic section on Careers Guidance, as well as:-

  • Study at Ulster – general information about Ulster, campuses, facilities, sport, etc.
  • Prospective Students – School Pupils, FE students, How to Apply, Student Finance, Student Life, etc.
  • Parents and Careers – Why University? Why Ulster? Application process, Moving Away, etc.
  • Open Days and Events – Comprehensive list of Ulster’s Open Days and internal/external recruitments events in which Ulster will be hosting/attending.

National Apprenticeship Week is the time when all eyes are on Apprenticeships and it’s all about raising the profile amongst employers, individuals, teachers, parents and the media. National Careers Week 2012

Monday 5th to Friday 9th March
National Careers Week 2012 is a week long celebration of careers education, advice and guidance. Schools, Colleges and employers across the UK are arranging events and activities during the week and there will also be a free ICG event at Wembley Stadium.

Year 11 Work Experience

Year 11 Work Experience will take place during the week of 18th-22nd June 2012.

All of the information you are given in Careers talks will be posted here on the blog.  There is also useful information in the Work Experience FAQs section. This section includes a link to the list of Charter companies and our employer database to get you started on your search for a placement.

Remember to fill in all the information covered in the talks during your form period, Monday Week A Period 1.

Careers talk 1 - Organising Your Work Experience Y11 PowerPoint

The form to upload your work experience details emailed to you in the next few weeks, please check your school email regularly as this is how we will be sending you important information.

Make sure that you have the following details ready to fill in :

A contact name and telephone number for your parent/carer

Your work placement details including phone number, full name of the person responsible for you, address and postcode

Remember to enter your details only once on the form.

It is your responsibility to get a placement for yourself.  However, please speak to Mrs Evans or Mrs Bingham if you need advice which is not provided here.

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR POTENTIAL MEDICAL AND ENGINEERING STUDENTS

Methodist College Belfast will be hosting their annual Medical Careers Symposium on Wed 15th Feb 2012  (cost  £15)

Only 4 places available

And their  ‘Engineering Our Future’ Conference takes place on Thurs 2nd February 2012. (cost £12)

Only 6 places available

If you intend making university applications to these courses you really should be attending these very worthwhile courses.

Names for either course MUST be given to Mrs Parkes or Mr Gamble by Monday 9th Jan. with full payment.

Places are always limited on these courses so early booking is essential.  Book early to avoid disappointment.

Opportunities for School Leavers at PWC

PWC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) are a multinational company with a great reputation for the quality of experience they offer their young people in employment with their company.  They offer graduate positions in the areas of Assurance, Tax, Consulting, Actuarial, Financial Advisory and Technological fields and had a record recruitment level in 2010/11.  However, this is a company which also offers opportunities for students leaving school.  They also offer diverse work placements and summer internships which may even lead to offers of employment!

Students in Y13/14 who are interested in joining PWC as a school leaver should book a Student Insight Day place via the PWC website.  PWC will be recruiting 12 school leavers in August 2012, these information sessions will allow you to enter into this process and will provide information about the company and the opportunities offered to students and graduates alike.  Places in these workshops are limited to 100 pupils and will be held in Belfast on 22th, 24th, 29th Feb and 2nd March 2012.  Book your place now to avoid disappointment.

Year 13 Work Experience

If you have not yet entered your details for your work placement, the link to the form has been re-opened to allow you to input your details now.

We understand that you may be waiting to hear from an employer, but it is now imperative that you make contact with them again and explain that the deadline for submitting a work placement is now past, and that you need to be able to confirm your placement as soon as possible.

Remember that your placement is an important aspect of your UCAS application, and that any perspective employers will be looking carefully at your choice of placement and it’s relevance to your career choice.

Please enter your details by 6th January.  Failure to submit your details by this deadline will mean that we cannot guarantee that your insurance forms will be processed in time for your placement.  This may mean that you will be unable to attend your placement.

 

Careers Convention STEM Ambassadors make a link with Lagan

We were delighted to welcome 4 STEM ambassadors to our Careers Convention on 24th November.  The ambassadors were:-
